Juniors Make Their Mark in Maryborough

Saturday, 20th January 2007

3 Toowoomba Juniors raced in Maryborough on the weekend for the Queensland QSCA Junior Title. Amy Smith, Casey Purcell and Ash Volk all made the journey to compete against some different cars and on a track that they weren't familiar with.

Amy Smith got off to a quick start in the first heat and was making an outside move on the defending champ who was running in first place, but got a little high and clipped the wall damaging the steering. She drove well again in the 2nd heat and went on to finish 9th in the final.

Casey Purcell held his ground in the first heat. In the second heat he started off of pole and held the lead for over half the race until engine problems started to plague the car. He had a very good chance to qualify through the B-main, but engine problems again seeing them out for the night.

Ash Volk got 4th, 3rd and 4th in his heats, qualifying him in 11th place. He raced a solid race in the feature finishing a strong 2nd. Ash was later disqualified in post race scruitineering after it was found there was electronic communication between the driver and passenger. Ash was not aware that is was not allowed in the rules.

Overall the Toowoomba Juniors showed what high standard of racing this class is providing, and all raced well against mostly 6 cylinder cars, on a very fast granite track that is very different to Charlton.
