Junior News

31st December 2007

Once again rain threatened the race meeting at Charlton but the announcement over the PA from the promoter was that "the show must go on!" The start of the meeting was delayed until the showers cleared and unfortunately the juniors missed out on their first heat.

The track was just starting to come good for heat two when the juniors took to the clay. Once again the mighty Corolla of Ash Volk found the fast line and led from go to whoa. James Campbell picked his way through the traffic to come second with the young Jesse Volk in the 200B in for third.

In the third heat it was Felicia Mitchell in the VK Commodore who lead the way for most of the race until the orange brigade came charging through. Once more it was Ash Volk to the front with James Campbell and Jesse Volk following. Ash won the heat fair and square however James and Jesse were demoted two places for allegedly hitting the Mitchell car on the way through. This gave second place to Felicia and third place to Jayden Murphy which was a good result considering he had a bad misfire in the engine.

Ash Volk and James Campbell shared the front row of the grid for the start of the 12 lap feature. Ash got the better of James into turns one and two but James managed to squeeze underneath Ash going into turn three. From there the two diced for the next few laps until James put some distance between the them. A restart saw the two cars back together again and James who left his turn in very late almost allowed Ash passed again. The Volk car sounded a little off song and fell back off the pace as they worked their way through lapped traffic. The finishing order was Campbell, Ash Volk and Jesse Volk.

Sadly Hayden Byrne was unable to start the night due to an engine problem but we look forward to seeing him back again. Newcomer John Collier is driving smoothly and appears to be getting quicker each meeting.

We race again on Jan 26 so get your nominations in and we'll see you there.

Peter Campbell.
